How we calculate
How is the cost of a trip worked out?
Route length × consumption per 100 km × fuel price. For a round trip the distance counts twice.
Which fuel price do you use?
The national weekly average in the country the trip starts in, for the week of the trip (for a trip in the future the newest known). For Slovakia that is the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, until its figures are out the European Commission's Weekly Oil Bulletin, which also covers the other EU countries.
Why is the whole trip priced in the country it starts in?
Most people fill up at home. The table "Where to fill up" lists the prices in the countries on the route and what a full tank (50 l) would save where fuel is cheapest. Prices outside the EU are not known.
Where does the route come from?
Routes are measured with openrouteservice (HeiGIT), and with GraphHopper when it is unavailable — both on OpenStreetMap data. Between two places you get up to three alternatives, with stops one route. The towns a route goes through come from GeoNames.
How is the cost split?
If the driver does not pay, the passengers split the cost. Tick "The driver pays too" to split it among everyone.
How do you compare fuels?
Your consumption is converted with a rough estimate: diesel about 15 % less, LPG about 20 % more litres, CNG about 0.65 kg for every litre of petrol.
